Aerial photographs are an important data source used by Resource Controls during the completion of environmental site assessments. Historical aerial photographs document evidence of past commercial and/or industrial activities, in addition to changes in topography, hydrology and vegetation.
Other types of imagery utilized by Resource Controls during the
environmental site assessment process include the following:
- Color infrared photographs which are useful for detecting vegetation stress; and
- Thermal infrared imagery which can detect qualitative variations in surface temperatures indicative of leachate discharge points, past disposal activities or subsurface pipelines.
