Resource Controls performed environmental work in support of redevelopment of this former auto repair shop. The site is located in a crowded area of Boston, surrounded by mixed residential and commercial properties, with very little land to work outside of the proposed building. Upon completion of remedial efforts, the site will be redeveloped into a residential apartment complex. Beginning in the fall of 2004, several MCP assessments and response actions were implemented at the site, with a goal of defining a clear site closure plan to support redevelopment goals. First, Resource Controls thoroughly reviewed and compiled historical environmental data from previous investigations, identified data gaps and remaining issues with respect to current federal and state regulations and local bylaws.
Resource Controls then completed a site-wide subsurface investigation involving the installation of over 15 soil borings, over two-dozen test pits, and installation of several monitoring wells. Phase I & II Assessment reports, as well as numerical ranking of the site for Tier Classification under the MCP was also completed. In order to complete this work, over 15,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil needed to be removed, eight tanks needed to be removed from the ground and the site needed to be closed with an RAO and no Activity and Use Limitation. |
