Our Experience with Community Development and Housing Authorities

Resource Controls is working closely with several local housing and economic development authorities, as well as community development corporations to rehabilitate existing infrastructure and remediate contaminated sites so that they can be put back into productive use. Our engineers and environmental scientists are currently performing engineering design, construction support, and assessment work for the following organziations:

Burrillville Housing Authority - Burrillville, Rhode Island

Our association with the Burrillville Housing Authority dates back nearly twenty years. The first project was the design of drainage improvements, followed by an assessment for rehabilitating the pavement at the facility and repaving the circular road and parking areas. In addition, a perimeter sidewalk was added and all internal walks were reconstructed.

We continued our diverse engineering work with the Authority on a roof replacement project for the administration building and finally improvements to the ventilation system in all residential housing.

Pawtucket Housing Authority - Pawtucket, Rhode Island

In 2010 Resource Controls added the Pawtucket Housing Authority to our ever-increasing list of public clients. The Authority needed to repair the external stair towers that had pulled away from a number of buildings in Galego Court, so an RFP was issued to Architects and Engineers. After showing that the movement was ongoing, Resource Controls offered a simple, least-to-construct solution, which was accepted by the Authority, saving them several hundred thousand dollars. We designed the repairs, received construction bids, and supported the Authority during construction.

Earlier this year, the Authority needed to have the sanitary sewer system of Galego inspected. In our proposal we offered a comprehensive study of cleaning and televising the sewers as well as conducting flow metering to determine the level of infiltration into the old clay sewer pipes. Repairs will be designed and constructed upon completion of our investigation.

Due to our diverse engineering and environmental experience, we were also recently engaged to assist the Authority with correcting underground oil tank compliance issues.

Office of Economic and Community Development - Taunton, Massachusetts

The City of Taunton, Office of Economic and Community Development, has been working with The Neighborhood Corporation (current owners of the former Nu-Brite facility) to redevelop the site into an affordable housing development. Resource Controls is assessing and designing an environmental clean-up of the site to enable conversion from industrial to residential use.

Resource Controls has also assessed a contaminated parcel being considered for a Brownfield Redevelopment by the Taunton Housing Authority.
